The following items were discussed at the Session Meeting held on December 7, 2014:

 

  • The Session agreed to meet with Dorothy Parks-Piatt to discuss her progression from inquirer to Candidacy in pursuit of ordination.
  • There was discussion of an email that was received from Mary McMillan suggesting a special New Hope anniversary offering dedicated to a specific cause.  This will be forwarded to the Outreach Committee for a recommendation.
  • The Session continued its discussion of reorganization of Session committees and  it is agreed that it’s an issue that should have further consideration.  It was decided that it might be wise to set aside further discussion until a new pastor is installed.
  • A date was chosen for the annual Session retreat.  The date will be Saturday, January 17th.  The time will be determined later.
  • The Session elected corporate officers for 2015.  The following officers were elected: President: Shaun Townley, Vice President: Elizabeth Savard, Secretary: Peter Savard, Treasurer: Troy Ivey.
  • Andy Sanislo reported that 3 members of the congregation have agree to serve of the Nominating Committee.  The members that will be presented to the congregation are: Andy Sanislo, Beverly, McCuiston, Janet Sump and Carl Baxter.  Election of the Nominating Committee will take place at the Congregational Meeting on December 14, 2014.
  • The Finance Committee presented a budget proposal for 2015.  There was discussion and clarification of several items.  The Session voted to adopt the budget proposal  for 2015.  There will be additional information presented to the congregation in the near future.
  • Several committees gave reports.

 

Session Meeting was held on December 16th.

  • The purpose of this meeting was to meet with Dorothy Parks-Piatt and reaffirm our support as she moves from inquiry to candidacy in pursuit of ordination in the Presbytery of East Tennessee.
  • Dorothy descried her faith journey and call to the ministry.  She also gave the Session an update on her academic experiences this past year.  She also responded to several questions from Session members.
  • The Session approved Dorothy's examination and voted unanimously to forward her request for candidacy to the Committee on Preparation for Ministry

 

The next Session meeting will be January 14, 2015.
