Week of September 7
September is Suicide Prevention Month. Suicide is a topic that many want to avoid, however it is among the top 10 leading causes of death for people ages 10-64. Veterans and LGBTQ+ as well as people of color have higher suicide rates than the average population. Recently the government has stopped funding for the 988 Lifeline’s specialized services for LGBTQ+ young people as well as cut funding for VA initiatives and mental health research. There is also less support for those experiencing mental health crises in rural areas. Take some time this week to educate yourself about suicide and seek out ways that you can be part of the solution to end suicide.
