Property Committee Update

From the Property Committee

New Hope's Property Committee has been involved in a flurry of activity these past few weeks.

A special thanks to Ron Young who has been the "go-to-guy" for much of our dealings with the various committees, commissions, and other entities of city government.  Rosie Sanislo, Pastor Candace and I are hustling to keep up!

Major developments in the process of selling our church property include:
     * Discovery that several years ago the developer of Waterside (the development behind the church) had zoning put in place that would require Napier Drive to be closed to left-hand turns at Shallowford Road.  New Hope was not part of that process but is now adversely affected by its implementation.  We are (with the help of Drury Development) petitioning the City Planning commission and the City Council to replace that zoning ordinance with another that continues Napier as a dead-end with a turn-around.  More to come!!

     * Drury Development has met with us several times to reassure us that they are not abandoning us as the above process drags on.  They have completed their "due diligence" requirements and are supporting us in our quest to have the zoning changed.  They have also contributed to our legal fees, for which we are very grateful.

     * It looks like we may not close on the property with Drury until around Thanksgiving, and that is a very fluid guess.  Everything depends on the willingness of the City Planning Commission and the City Council to hear our plea for a change in the zoning.  Pastor Candace has details in her article in this newsletter.

     * Just a small note, but one I found funny:  For a very short period of time our sale was contingent upon whether or not there were endangered crayfish in the creek between us and Embassy Suites.  What a relief to find they were just regular crayfish!  I guess after you spend weeks and weeks trying to work with City government endangered crayfish seem hilarious!

There have been few developments on the purchase of 7608 Shallowford Rd.  We have been able to extend our purchase agreement to match our sale agreement.  Also, we gave them an additional $5000 as good faith money to  assure them that we are serious about our commitment to them.  This money was gifted to us by Drury Development.

The Property Committee has talked to an architect with our same vision and sense of mission.  We have discussed the possibility of remodeling the existing sanctuary on the new property and adding a covered entrance, narthex, new bathrooms, and a fellowship hall addition.  Things are in the VERY early stages and NOTHING has even been sketched out.   We are anxious for all of you come and see for yourself the possibilities at 7608.  As worship elder I am planning to host a Worship Sunday at 7608 as soon as we can.

Plan to car-pool from church on September 10 for the Planning Commission meeting!

As always, please talk to any of us with your concerns, questions, ideas and hopes.  If you have gripes or negative thoughts - those go to God.  Keep us in your prayers.
