Summary of the Session Meeting
March 2018

  • The Session held its annual retreat on March 3 and met in a regularly scheduled Session meeting on March 18.
  • The main topic for discussion was the strategic planning process.
    • The Session had earlier identified three goals
      • Goal 1: Stabilize New Hope's financial future.  
      • Goal 2: Develop a plan for church ministries.
      • Goal 3: Explore the possibility of moving to a new location.
    • Strategies to address these goals were developed and implementation of the strategies has begun.
      • The Session evaluated progress on those strategies at the meeting on the 18th.
  • The Session also heard again from the Drury Hotel Group on their ideas for utilizing our present property while supporting New Hope in this challenging time.
  • Troy Ivey presented the monthly budget report.
  • The Session approved the replacement of the copier in the office and the purchase of new office computers.
    • The present copier is 12 years old and can no longer be repaired.
    • The present computers are at least 6 years old and are having difficulty handling new software updates.
  • Andy Sanisly updated the Session on the Presbytery Committee on Ministries.
  • Rosie and Andy Sanislo attended two seminars on Church Security, and reported to the Session with an informational handout describing secruity improvements that can be made to our church property.
    • Security concerns are important and need to be addressed in the near future.
  • The Earth Care committee has applied for and received re-certification as a green congregation.
  • The Session approved a request by Marilyn Suber to begin a book study based on the book Sparking Gems to begin in the near future.
The next Session meeting will be April 15.
