Summary of the Session Meetings – June & July 2018

  • · Treasurer Troy Ivey gave a report on the current fiscal condition of the church.
    • Contributions continue to fall behind last year’s pace.
    • The Session approved moving $11,600 from the Rainy Day Fund to the General Fund to cover monthly expenses.
    • Andy Fisher from Edward Jones made a presentation on planning for a our financial future at the July meeting.
    • The Session continues to look at planning for the sale of the church and the investment of the proceeds.
  • The Session gave the go ahead for Rev. Worth to host the local clergy group on August 16th.
  • The Session decided to sponsor the Christmas Village again this year during the first week of December.
  • The main topic of discussion remains the sale of church property.
    • A major obstacle has arisen with the discovery that the city is planning to close the left hand turn from Shallowford Road to Napier.
      • This decision was part of the rezoning for the Waterside development in 2016.
      • The church was never consulted about the change and, in fact, was not even considered in the deliberations that took place in 2016.
    • The Property Committee has been working hard to get this change rescinded, but dealing with the city bureaucracy is not for the faint of heart.
    • Currently we are on the schedule to present our case to the Regional Planning Commission on September 10th at 1pm.  (Hamilton County Courthouse 600 Market Street, 4th Floor)
      • At that time it would be EXTREMELY beneficial to have as many church members as possible present for the meeting.
    • If the RPC approves the request, we will need to have the City Council approve it at a meeting in October.
    • Feel free to check with members of the Property committee (Ron, Lizz, Rosie, Peter or Candace) if you would like more information.
  • The strategic planning process continues to move forward.
    • The current emphasis is on determining the mission of New Hope as we move forward.
    • To this end, all members of the congregation have been asked to fill out a brief survey.
      • Response at this point has been poor.
      • Please take the time to fill out the survey as we need input from all of you.

The next Session meeting will be August 19th.
